Tales from Nature

Porphyridium Cruentum is a red alga that lives in the Thau lagoon, the largest pond in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. It is able to live in a hostile environment (variability of salinity, temperature etc.) and is known for its anti-inflammatory, UV-protective and anti-aging properties.

Algae extracts in cosmetics are widely used because of their multifunctionality and the many benefits cge generate especially in skin care products. They contain lipids, proteins, vitamins, several ingredients with antibacterial effect and a high amount of minerals.

They have a revitalizing and remineralizing effect and can stimulate blood circulation and cell renewal. Seaweed extracts are extremely hygroscopic and also correspond in part to the different hydration components of the skin. They make the skin smooth and soft and are therefore often used as humectants in facial toners and peels. Seaweeds are mostly used in cosmetics, while freshwater algae are mostly used in nutrition.

Skin Benefits

Porphyridium cruentum has an immediate lifting, antioxidant and firming effect. It generates a visible tightening effect. It acts to firm and relax the skin, visibly reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines from the very first application and keeping the skin protected from free radicals that can damage it on a daily basis.

This complex works on two levels: it gives an instant lifting effect while, with constant use, it helps to improve skin firmness, keeping it hydrated and plumped over the long term. It is therefore very effective in conditioning the dermis, as it contains large amounts of polysaccharides that retain water and, as a result, hydrate the skin and prevent it from becoming dehydrated.

In eye contour products, it diminishes the appearance of dark circles under the eyes. Finally, it reduces symptoms related to "swollen and heavy legs."
