Iris Essential Oil is the finest in the world. To produce one liter, 500 kg of fresh rhizome is needed. The value of the raw material and related processing and drying, which involves a period of about three years, is equivalent to 15,000 per kg.
This Essential Oil is obtained from the rhizome of the Iris (so not the flower), the part of the stem that grows underground, from which the roots start. The first stage of processing begins in the summer, with the harvesting of the rhizomes.
After drying there is the distillation stage from which a compound is obtained which, because of its very thick consistency, is called iris butter. From this is derived the Essential Oil.
