Oltrnifolia melaleuca, commonly known as Tea Tree, is a tree belonging to the Mirtaceae family, originally from the federated states of Queensland and the new South Wales, in Australia. The name was given to him by Captain James Cook, who recognized the possibility of obtaining a drink similar to spicy tea.

It should not be confused with Camelia Sinensis from which the drink known as tea is obtained. From it is extracted the essential oil of Melaleuca, known as Tea Tree Oil or tea tree, with fungicidal, antiseptic and anti -antibacterial properties.
