Bergamot is the fruit, precisely citrus, of Citrus Bergamia, an evergreen that grows to three to four feet tall, with light green leaves and fragrant white flowers. Bergamot is deep yellow, round and somewhat flattened at the poles, cultivated mainly on the coasts, especially in Sicily and the coasts of Magna Graecia in general.
The geographic origin is not certain, since it is a hybrid between two other citrus fruits, but that of the name is Turkish; in fact, it is called "beg amudi" that is, "pear of the Lord."
The Essential Oil extracted from the plant is frequently used in cosmetics in the formulations of skin and hair products because of its healing and astringent properties.
