Tales from Nature
Ylang Ylang Essential Oil is extracted from the flowers of Cananga Odorata, a plant belonging to the Annonaceae family. Native to Indonesia, it can grow up to 12-12 mt in height. Known for its many beneficial properties, it has a calming, hypotensive and aphrodisiac action.
The name ylang-ylang, means flower of flowers, or from ilang-ilan, meaning "uncommon," in reference to the very distinctive scent. Women in those Asian countries used to dissolve a few drops of it in coconut oil to protect skin and hair during the rainy season. It was called an "aphrodisiac perfume" throughout the ages.
It is widely used in perfumery and cosmetics because of its ability to preserve the moisture and proper hydrolipid balance of the skin.
