Stories from Nature
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is a genus of plants belonging to the Asteraceae family, known for its numerous species and varying sizes. It is a perennial herb with a sturdy stem that can grow to a height of 30–50 cm and has a long flowering period. The genus name was established by Linnaeus and derives from the belief that Achilles used these plants during the siege of Troy to treat Telephus’s wounds on Venus’s advice.
These plants are native to regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Some species also grow in North America; in Italy, about twenty wild species have been identified.
